FIVE YEAR CONTRACT EXTENSION AWARDED AT WILPINJONG

We are pleased to announce that SMW Drilling Services has been awarded a five year contract extension at Peabody’s Wilpinjong Mine in the NSW western coalfields.

As a long term partner, we have been on site providing supplementary blast hole drilling services since 2016 and this contract extension will see us expand on this scope of work.

Located 48km north-east of Mudgee, the mine began operations in 2006 and produces high quality thermal coal for domestic and export markets. In 2013, Peabody Energy completed an expansion project on site to increase production, and in 2022, production reached around 12.1 million tons.

Over the next five years, SMW Drilling Services will deliver a combination of blast hole drilling services, equipment hire and drill fleet maintenance labour and coordination. This contract represents a 60% increase in equipment and labour on the existing scope. The project will also see the commissioning of our first Caterpillar MD6250 blast hole drill, which will be introduced in the next few months.
